The oceanarium, which opened its doors to the public in 2021, is open to students and researchers in artificial intelligence and robotics (IAR). A memorandum of understanding has been established between Odysseo and the University of Mascarene, a public university. The students and researchers of the university will be able to develop within the oceanarium various projects whose aim is to promote the conservation of biodiversity or to raise public awareness.
The graduate training (Master) in IAR of the University of the Mascarene Islands is unique in Mauritius. The students are all state scholarship holders.
The aquariums will initially be used to test robots developed by students or researchers. These robots will have the capacity, for example, to take pictures of the seabed for virtual reconstitutions of reefs or for the recognition of underwater species.
