Barely a million more than a million euros in the words of an executive of this regional structure: “The Member States (Comoros, Madagascar, France-Réunion, Mauritius and Seychelles) are the only contributors to the budget of the General Secretariat, or around 1 million euros per year. Note that the secretariat also received a grant from China, an observer member country, for an amount of $ 100,000. “
A relatively low operating budget compared to the budgets managed by the Commission: “The development partners finance the projects that we implement, the European Union being the main contributor, ie an 80% share of the funding dedicated to the projects. AFD is our second largest contributor, followed by the World Bank, the African Development Bank and other smaller funding for more ad hoc activities. “
For the period 2013-2017, the IOC managed a project envelope of around 120 million euros with some of these projects covering a geographical area beyond the sole framework of the IOC islands (for example the project SmartFish).

In addition, the Green Fund is expected to grow in the sources of funding for the IOC, which aims for accreditation to become an implementing entity for projects financed by this fund.
